Charlotte Hall, Md. — Weis Markets held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and preview event Wednesday to mark the grand opening of its new Charlotte Hall Weis Markets store. The 60,000-plus-square-foot supermarket at 30015 Three Notch Road opens to the public today, becoming the company’s 51st location in Maryland.
“We are very proud to bring Weis Markets to the Charlotte Hall community and welcome local families to experience our commitment to quality, value and convenience,” said Jonathan Weis, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Weis Markets. “This new store reflects our latest design. We wanted to create a gathering place that is uniquely suited to Charlotte Hall. Designed with intention, the architecture aims to provide a true front porch for the community: welcoming and familiar. It will offer enhanced convenience, exceptional products and great prices that customers expect and deserve. We look forward to serving the Charlotte Hall Community.”

The Charlotte Hall Weis Markets employs more than 185 full- and part-time associates. Shoppers will find an expansive produce department with a wide selection of organic items, full-service seafood and meat counters, daily prepared sushi, a deli with sliced meats, cheeses and heat-and-serve meals, and a Starbucks kiosk for hot and cold beverages with mobile app ordering. Other amenities include a broad range of organic and natural foods, a full-service drive-thru pharmacy, and a six-pump Gas N’ Go fuel center where customers can redeem Weis Rewards points for discounts.
Sustainability features in the Charlotte Hall Weis Markets design include maximized natural light to cut down on daytime electrical use, energy-efficient LED lighting, and CO2 refrigeration systems that rely on less harmful refrigerants than those in typical supermarkets. Customers can also use Weis 2 Go Online for ordering with curbside pickup or delivery, where trained personal shoppers select groceries.
Pricing programs at the Charlotte Hall Weis Markets aim to help shoppers save. The new Price Lock initiative covers high-demand seasonal items, while the Low, Low Price program offers reduced costs on more than 10,000 products. Weekly Hot Buys provide additional deals on thousands of items.
To celebrate the opening and express appreciation to the community, Weis Markets donated $1,500 each to Charlotte Hall Veterans Homes, Chopticon High School and the Mechanicsville Fire Department. A $10,000 contribution went to the Maryland Food Bank to aid efforts in St. Mary’s County. These gifts align with the company’s ongoing philanthropy, which supports local hunger relief, veterans’ groups, pet shelters and other nonprofits year-round.

Weis Markets, founded in 1912 by brothers Harry and Sigmund Weis in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, began as Weis Pure Foods, a cash-only store that helped lower prices for working-class customers. The company expanded into Maryland in 1967 with its first store in Hagerstown, followed by one in Frederick. Today, Weis operates 200 stores across seven states, including Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia and Virginia, employing over 23,000 people.
This Charlotte Hall Weis Markets opening is part of a broader expansion. The company announced plans in May to build four new stores, each over 60,000 square feet, with three slated for 2025 in Lake Linganore, Charlotte Hall and Middletown, Delaware, and one in Waldorf, Maryland, in early 2026. These locations feature expansive fresh departments, fuel centers and sustainable technologies. The Charlotte Hall Weis Markets follows the June debut of a store in Lake Linganore, Maryland.
Charlotte Hall, a census-designated place spanning St. Mary’s and Charles counties, has a population of about 1,448 and offers a rural lifestyle with roots dating to the 1700s. Residents value its peaceful setting, historic buildings and community spots like the veterans home and local schools. The new Charlotte Hall Weis Markets adds to area conveniences, situated along Route 5, which sees over 39,000 vehicles daily.
Company leaders, including Weis and Chief Operating Officer Bob Gleeson, attended the event alongside St. Mary’s County elected officials and community members. The store’s design and services position it as a hub for local shoppers seeking quality groceries and community-focused retail.
