WALDORF, Md. — Authorities arrested a 30-year-old Waldorf man on attempted murder charges following a joint operation that also netted two stolen handguns and drugs, capping a four-month investigation into a shooting on October Place. Earl Tyree Porter faces attempted first-degree murder and related offenses after detectives linked him to the April 14, 2025, attack where a man was shot multiple times in the chest but survived. The Waldorf attempted murder arrest unfolded August 22 when Charles County Sheriff’s Office detectives and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force served a search warrant in the 3000 block of Gallery Place.

The victim, an adult male, was transported to a hospital after the shooting and recovered from his injuries. Investigators identified Porter as the primary suspect through evidence gathered in the ensuing probe. Given Porter’s transient lifestyle, the sheriff’s office enlisted the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force for assistance in locating him. During the raid, law enforcement encountered Porter alongside Damon Justin Dancy, 30, of Waldorf, and Dnai Collins, 26, of Waldorf. A search of the residence yielded two stolen semi-automatic handguns, controlled dangerous substances including 14 pressed fentanyl pills, approximately 0.2 grams of crack cocaine and 6 grams of cocaine hydrochloride with packaging, plus $15,600 in counterfeit $100 bills and other evidence. Porter was held without bond following his arrest, while a judge on August 25 ordered Dancy released on electronic monitoring and Collins on personal recognizance.

Further checks revealed Dancy had three active warrants through Charles County, and Collins was wanted as a fugitive from justice via Fairfax County, Virginia. The operation highlighted interagency cooperation, with the U.S. Marshals Special Operations Group supporting the task force in apprehending the suspects, all of whom are suspected gang members. This Waldorf attempted murder arrest aligns with broader efforts to curb violent crime in the area, where law enforcement routinely targets fugitives tied to firearms and narcotics.

Porter’s apprehension marks a significant step in resolving the April incident, but records show he has a prior criminal history in Charles County. In 2012, as a 17-year-old, Porter was arrested for a shooting at a house party on Derryfield Court in Waldorf, charged as an adult with attempted murder and related counts. He received a 10-year prison sentence in 2013 for that case, underscoring a pattern of firearm-related offenses. Details on Dancy’s and Collins’ warrants remain limited, but their arrests during the raid emphasize how such operations often uncover additional violations.

The Waldorf attempted murder arrest occurred amid ongoing challenges with gun violence and drug distribution in Charles County, a community of suburban neighborhoods and commercial areas near major routes like U.S. 301. Residents familiar with Waldorf’s growth recognize Gallery Place and October Place as residential spots where drug transactions can escalate. Charles County Sheriff’s Office, established in 1658 as one of the nation’s oldest law enforcement agencies, prioritizes such cases through its Criminal Investigations Division.

In 2024, the sheriff’s office investigated five homicides, closing two with arrests, and handled one fatal and one non-fatal officer-involved shooting. Total arrests reached 3,976, reflecting proactive patrols and collaborations. Firearm recoveries included 13 guns by the Firearms Investigations Unit from 16 cases, with seven individuals charged. The Narcotics Enforcement Section seized 42 firearms, $123,676 in currency, and controlled dangerous substances valued at $1.59 million on the street. Opioid-related calls dropped to 56 in 2024 from 93 in 2023, with fatalities declining to 15 from 33, attributed to increased Narcan availability and community outreach.

Looking back to 2023 for comparison, the agency probed 15 homicides in 12 cases, closing 14 with 15 arrests, and made 4,123 total arrests. Drug seizures that year included 6,103 grams of fentanyl and other substances worth over $4 million, alongside 42 firearms. Statewide data from Maryland’s 2023 Uniform Crime Report shows Charles County with 15 arrests for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, 224 for aggravated assault, and 1,218 for drug/narcotic violations. Aggravated assaults totaled 245 incidents, with a county-wide crime rate per 100,000 population declining in some areas but reflecting persistent issues with weapons, where 259 arrests involved weapon law violations.

As Porter awaits further court proceedings, the Waldorf attempted murder arrest serves as a reminder of the interconnected nature of guns, drugs, and fugitives in the region.
