LEONARDTOWN, MD (September 17, 2025) – A Lexington Park man, Anibal Carrasquillo III, 39, was arrested early Tuesday morning after a four-hour barricade at a Kingfisher Court residence following a report of him firing a gun at a woman during an argument. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 45000 block of Kingfisher Court at 10:28 p.m. on September 15, 2025, after the woman, who fled the home, called 911.

Deputies heard multiple gunshots from inside the residence upon arrival, confirming Carrasquillo was alone inside. A barricade was declared, and nearby residents were told to shelter in place. The Sheriff’s Office deployed its Emergency Services Team, Hostage Negotiation Team, Drone Unit, and K9 handlers, with assistance from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office K9 team and Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack. At 2:25 a.m., Carrasquillo surrendered and was taken into custody.

A search warrant executed on the home uncovered shell casings and two firearms. Carrasquillo faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and use of a firearm in a felony or crime of violence. These charges carry significant penalties under Maryland law, including up to 30 years for attempted second-degree murder and a mandatory minimum of five years for the firearm charge.

The incident disrupted the quiet Kingfisher Court neighborhood, near Great Mills Road and the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. The shelter-in-place order, lifted after Carrasquillo’s arrest, ensured no residents were harmed. The Sheriff’s Office’s use of drones and negotiators helped resolve the situation without further violence, a testament to their training in high-risk scenarios.

Carrasquillo is being held at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, pending a bond hearing. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as evidence is processed. Residents can contact the Sheriff’s Office at 301-475-8008 for updates.

St. Mary’s County has seen a slight decline in firearm-related incidents, with 22 reported in 2024, per the Maryland Uniform Crime Reporting Program. Still, this event highlights the need for continued vigilance. The Sheriff’s Office Community Engagement Unit offers programs on conflict resolution and gun safety, while the St. Mary’s County Health Department provides domestic violence resources.
