The College of Southern Maryland women’s soccer team dismantled Garrett College 10-0 on October 25, 2025, at the CSM Soccer Field, securing a spot in the NJCAA Region 20 semifinals with a dominant offensive display and a clean-sheet defense. The No. 22-ranked Hawks, who entered as the top seed with an 11-3-1 record, improved to 12-3-1 behind four goals from forward Sara Allwine and a shutout from goalkeeper Kylie Smith.
The match, which kicked off at 11 a.m. under clear skies typical for late October in Charles County, saw CSM pull ahead early and never look back. Allwine opened the scoring unassisted at 7:55 in the first half, followed by Amber Jones’ solo strike at 20:49. Jones added her second at 31:45, and Allwine converted an assist from Abby May at 32:18 to make it 4-0. Faith Wright capped the half with an unassisted goal at 33:41, and Zoey Lisbon-Browne finished a feed from Jones at 40:02 for a 6-0 halftime lead.
The second half brought more fireworks. May scored unassisted at 47:10, Allwine notched her third at 49:12, and Abigail Noftsier tallied one off a Wright assist at 66:20. Elyssa Guy closed the scoring at 67:28, assisted by Jones, as CSM outshot Garrett 31-10 and held a 4-0 edge in corner kicks. Smith faced zero shots on goal in 90 minutes, extending her shutout streak to two games after a 3-0 regular-season finale win over Harford on October 21. Fouls were minimal, with CSM committing 11 to Garrett’s 12.
Allwine’s hat trick-plus-one performance marked her as the game’s standout, finishing with eight shots on goal and eight points. Jones contributed six points through two goals and two assists, while May led all players with 12 shots, yielding two goals and an assist. Guy added two goals, and Wright, Noftsier and Lisbon-Browne each found the net once, with Wright assisting on Noftsier’s tally. The balanced attack reflected CSM’s depth, drawing from a roster blending Southern Maryland high school standouts and returning all-conference talent.
CSM’s path to the quarterfinals capped a regular season where the Hawks went 8-0-1 in Division II conference play, clinching the top seed in a region spanning Maryland, West Virginia and western Pennsylvania. Region 20, administered by the National Junior College Athletic Association, qualifies its Division II champion for the national tournament in Peoria, Arizona, offering players pathways to four-year scholarships. The Hawks last reached nationals in 2013, their most recent Region 20 title, and fell to Harford 3-1 in last year’s championship game — Harford’s third straight crown.
This victory avenged an October 11 regular-season meeting where CSM edged Garrett 7-0, extending a 3-0 series lead since 2012. Garrett, based in McHenry and finishing 2-12-1, struggled offensively all season, scoring just 12 goals in 15 games.
Returning stars anchored the effort. Allwine, a sophomore forward from La Plata High School, earned All-Region 20 first-team honors last year with 27 goals and eight assists, her output pivotal in a 10-5-1 campaign. Smith, also a sophomore, started all 16 games in 2024, logging 10 wins, four shutouts and 91 saves at a 76.5 percent clip. May, another sophomore forward, added 15 goals and four assists, securing All-Maryland JUCO second-team recognition. Defenders like Baylee Copsey and Taylor Hopkins provided stability, with Copsey starting every match last season and earning honorable mention accolades.
Freshmen infused energy, with Guy, Wright and Lisbon-Browne — all hailing from area high schools — combining for four goals in the win. The 11 newcomers, recruited from local programs, addressed departures and bolstered midfield and backline depth. CSM’s schedule featured tough tests like a 2-1 loss to Montgomery on September 24 and a 3-1 defeat to Harford on October 3, honing resilience en route to the tournament.
Next, CSM hosts Carroll Community College on October 29 at noon in the semifinals. Carroll, the No. 4 seed with a 9-4-2 mark, advanced past No. 5 Hagerstown 2-1 on October 25. A win sends the Hawks to the November 1 championship at the higher seed’s site, chasing that elusive title and national bid. Region 20’s bracket, finalized October 20, pitted eight Division II teams, with CSM’s quarterfinal hosting a nod to their unbeaten conference run.
The Hawks’ offensive average of 6.83 goals per game ranks among the region’s best, fueled by set-piece execution and counterattacks drilled in fall scrimmages. Defensively, Smith’s presence has limited opponents to under one goal per match.
