INDIAN HEAD, Md. — A 20-year-old Marbury man is being held without bond after leading Charles County sheriff’s deputies on a brief vehicle pursuit that ended with the recovery of a stolen handgun, cannabis and drug-packaging material late Sunday night.
Luis Edgardo Mejia Molina was taken into custody shortly before 11 p.m. Dec. 1, 2025, following a traffic stop in the 3000 block of Chicamuxen Road in the Indian Head area of northern Charles County.
A patrol officer initiated the stop at 10:51 p.m. for an undisclosed traffic violation. After pulling over, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and fled south on Chicamuxen Road. The driver made several turns through residential streets before circling back onto Chicamuxen Road, where additional deputies had deployed stop sticks across the roadway.
The fleeing vehicle struck the tire-deflation devices and became disabled, coming to rest in the 3200 block of Chicamuxen Road. Molina, the driver, and a 17-year-old male passenger were removed from the car and detained without further incident.
A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a quantity of cannabis, packaging material commonly associated with distribution, and several rounds of 9mm ammunition. Deputies canvassed the pursuit route and located a handgun that had been discarded from the fleeing vehicle prior to it stopping. A records check revealed the firearm had been reported stolen in another state.
Molina was charged with multiple firearm-related offenses, including illegal possession of a regulated firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, as well as numerous traffic citations stemming from the pursuit. He was also served with two active warrants from another law enforcement agency.
The juvenile passenger’s identity and any potential charges were not immediately released by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, which is standard practice when minors are involved.
On Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2025, a Charles County District Court judge ordered Molina held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center in La Plata pending trial.
