ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — Three St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s soccer players received 2025 United Soccer Coaches All-Region IV recognition, with senior defender Jack Nelson of Ellicott City named to the First Team and sophomores Zach Blaum of Richmond, Va., and Nick Haney of Chesapeake Beach landing on the Third Team.

Nelson, a River Hill High School graduate, secured his second career all-region selection and became only the second defender in program history to earn First Team honors. Matt Barlow, class of 2023, was the previous defender to achieve the distinction in 2022.

The 5-foot-9 Nelson repeated as United East Conference Defensive Player of the Year on Nov. 12 and closed his career as a three-time All-United East selection, earning First Team honors in 2024 and 2025 after Second Team recognition in 2023. He tied for sixth in the conference with two game-winning goals, tied for 13th with 13 points and three assists, and tied for 14th with five goals. His back line contributed to seven shutouts, fourth-best in the league.

Blaum, a 6-2 midfielder from Atlee High School, collected his first all-region award after back-to-back First Team All-United East selections. The 2024 United East Rookie of the Year tied for fifth in the conference with 43 shots, tied for sixth with two game-winning goals and 21 shots on goal, and tied for 14th with five goals to finish the season with 12 points.

Haney, a 5-11 forward from Northern High School in Calvert County, more than tripled his freshman point total en route to his first all-region nod. He led the United East with five game-winning goals, a total that ranked 18th nationally in Division III, while placing second in the conference with 49 shots, third with 25 points, fourth with 10 goals and 23 shots on goal, and tying for fifth with five assists. The Chesapeake Beach native earned United East Offensive Player of the Week honors twice during the season.

The awards extend St. Mary’s College’s streak of all-region recognition to 10 consecutive seasons, excluding 2020 when no awards were issued because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Across program history, 18 different Seahawks have combined for 33 all-region selections.

St. Mary’s College finished the 2025 campaign 13-6-1 overall and a perfect 8-0-0 in United East play, capturing the conference regular-season championship for the second straight year.

The United Soccer Coaches All-Region teams are selected by member coaches within each NCAA division and geographic region. Region IV encompasses schools in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and the District of Columbia.
