The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s basketball team fell 77-57 to Penn College in United East Conference play on Friday, January 23, 2026, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

First-year guard Khairi Hyde (Gaithersburg, Md./Wootton) and sophomore James Crimaudo (Riva, Md./South River) led the Seahawks with 15 and 13 points, respectively, combining for 28 points. St. Mary’s College dropped to 7-10 overall and 3-4 in the United East Conference, while Penn College improved to 4-15 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

The Seahawks started strong, hitting back-to-back three-pointers for a 6-4 lead at 18:49, then extending to 8-5 on Crimaudo’s jumper at 18:16. Penn College responded with a 13-0 run, taking a 10-point advantage by 13:50 behind Owen Newcomer’s pair of threes. St. Mary’s tied the game at 26-all on Crimaudo’s layup at 6:26, but the Wildcats closed the half with a 10-4 surge for a 36-30 halftime edge.

Penn College maintained control in the second half, pushing to a 49-39 lead at 14:16 and widening the gap to 20 points at 71-51 with 2:43 left.

St. Mary’s shot 30.9 percent (21-of-68) from the field and 29.6 percent (8-of-27) from three-point range, while making 50 percent (7-of-14) at the free-throw line. The Seahawks scored 13 points off 19 Penn College turnovers. Penn College shot 49.1 percent from the field and held a plus-7 rebounding margin (40-33).

Hyde added three assists, two rebounds, and one steal in 35 minutes. Crimaudo contributed three rebounds, three steals, and two assists in 28 minutes. Senior captain JD Salo (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to go with two points, two assists, one block, and one steal.

For Penn College, Joseph-Davis Cydae led all scorers with 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting, adding seven rebounds, six steals, and three blocks.

The loss follows recent United East action for the Seahawks, who compete in the conference alongside other regional teams. St. Mary’s College, located in St. Mary’s City in Southern Maryland, draws players from the area, including Crimaudo from Riva in Anne Arundel County and Salo from Dunkirk in Calvert County.

The Seahawks return home for their next games: hosting Penn State Harrisburg (12-8, 8-1 UEC) on January 27 at 5 p.m. in MPOARC Arena (Gold Rush theme), followed by Senior Day against Keystone (5-14, 3-5 UEC) on January 31 at 1 p.m.
