St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 29-year-old Lexington Park man Sunday after a traffic stop on Great Mills Road escalated into a brief pursuit, leading to the seizure of suspected heroin, drug paraphernalia, and nearly $5,000 in cash.

The incident unfolded March 1, 2026, in Lexington Park during proactive patrol operations. Deputies spotted a vehicle failing to stop properly at a traffic light and initiated a stop. The driver accelerated away, prompting a short pursuit. During the chase, a deputy saw the driver discard a plastic bag from the vehicle. The vehicle stopped soon after, and the driver was taken into custody without further incident.

Deputies recovered the discarded bag, which contained suspected heroin. A subsequent search of the vehicle and the driver uncovered suspected controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia and close to $5,000 in cash.

The sole occupant and driver, Jamal Kedrick Demetrius Davis, 29, of Lexington Park, faced multiple charges: possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute, destroying, altering or concealing physical evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use.

Davis was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown.

The arrest stems from the sheriff’s office’s ongoing efforts to address drug-related activity through targeted patrols in high-traffic areas like Great Mills Road. No additional suspects were involved, as Davis was the only person in the vehicle.

This case highlights the quick response by deputies in turning a routine traffic violation into a significant drug seizure. Authorities have not released further details on the quantity of suspected heroin or the specific paraphernalia recovered. The charges reflect intent to distribute based on the evidence found, including the cash amount, which often factors into such determinations in drug cases.

No information indicates prior charges in this specific incident, though public records show historical interactions with law enforcement for Davis in St. Mary’s County dating back several years, unrelated to this event.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office continues proactive enforcement to combat narcotics distribution in Southern Maryland communities.
