The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs launched a “Tickets for Tails” campaign on March 5, 2026, donating $1 from every online single-game ticket purchased for the 2026 season to the Humane Society of Charles County during a limited window from 9:00 a.m. March 6 through noon March 13. The initiative supports the Waldorf-based no-kill shelter, which faces potential permanent closure after 50 years due to depleted resources and urgent need for $125,000 to sustain operations through 2026.
The Humane Society of Charles County, the region’s only no-kill animal shelter, relies exclusively on private donations without funding from Charles County government, the State of Maryland, or the national Humane Society. Shelter leaders, including Director April Hodges, have issued desperate appeals highlighting financial instability from rising costs and resource shortages that threaten daily care for sick, abused, and homeless animals. Without immediate community support, the organization risks shutting down, potentially forcing animals—especially long-term residents like pit bulls—into other facilities where euthanasia could occur.

The Blue Crabs, known as “Southern Maryland’s Hometown Team,” positioned the partnership as an extension of their community stewardship role. General Manager Christian Heimall stated: “This is what it means to be ‘Southern Maryland’s Hometown Team’. Being community stewards and helping those in need is a pillar of this organization. The Humane Society of Charles County has been a staple of our community for half a century and we want to have them around for at least another 50 years. We look forward to working with Crustacean Nation on this, and many more, fundraising initiatives!”
Single-game tickets for the upcoming Atlantic League season at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf went on sale March 6 at www.bluecrabsbaseball.com/individualgametickets. Fans purchasing online during the promotional period directly contribute to the shelter while planning visits to games featuring fireworks, theme nights, and family entertainment. The campaign encourages maximum participation to amplify the dollar-per-ticket impact amid the shelter’s critical fundraising drive.
The Humane Society provides lifelong care, medical support, adoption services, and community education, having offered second chances to thousands of animals over five decades. Additional support options include direct donations via the shelter’s website, mailing contributions to 71 Industrial Park Drive, Waldorf, MD 20602, or contributing to the active GoFundMe campaign, which as of early March 2026 had raised over $17,000 toward the $125,000 goal from hundreds of donors.
This collaboration arrives as the shelter’s urgent plea gained regional attention, with local media and social channels amplifying calls for help to prevent closure and maintain no-kill services in Southern Maryland.
