ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — The St. Mary’s College of Maryland baseball team split a nonconference doubleheader with York College of Pennsylvania on March 7, 2026, at the Hawk’s Nest, dropping the opener 6-2 before rallying for an 8-2 win in the nightcap.
The Seahawks improved to 4-4 overall with the split, while York moved to 3-5. The games marked the start of a three-game series between the nonconference foes, with York hosting the finale on March 8.

In Game 1, York seized control early with a five-run first inning. Joe Urban’s two-run homer highlighted the outburst, followed by RBI singles that built a 5-0 lead. St. Mary’s responded in the fourth when Eli Shafer drove in Rhett Fletcher with an RBI single, and Will Wilson added a run-scoring single to cut the deficit to 5-2. York tacked on an insurance run in the sixth on Alex Neeld’s RBI triple.
Connor Wilkerson paced the Seahawks offense, going 2-for-3 with a double. Shafer and Wilson each drove in a run. Jordan Bonhoff took the loss, allowing five runs in 3.2 innings while striking out seven. Nick Russo delivered strong relief, giving up one run over 3.1 innings.
The Seahawks flipped the script in Game 2, overcoming an early 1-0 deficit. They tied it in the second when Kyle Catanzaro reached on an error, allowing Shafer to score. St. Mary’s surged ahead in the fourth with two runs for a 3-1 lead. Kody Adkins extended the advantage with an RBI single in the fifth, Shafer added another RBI hit in the sixth, and the Seahawks added one in the seventh and two in the eighth to secure the victory.
Adkins led the way offensively, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI. Kaden Hnath went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Shafer contributed two hits and an RBI. Ryan Matthews started and allowed one run over four innings. Cam Gill earned the win with three innings of relief, while Adam Ferony and Willie Nelson closed out the final two frames.
The split showcased resilience for St. Mary’s, particularly in bouncing back after a slow start in the opener. The Seahawks capitalized on timely hitting and York errors in the decisive game. This nonconference matchup provided valuable early-season experience for both teams in the competitive Mid-Atlantic collegiate baseball landscape.
St. Mary’s continued its 2026 schedule following the series, with the team positioned in the United East Conference standings after recent performances. The program emphasizes development and competitive play at the Division III level, drawing from the historic campus setting in Southern Maryland.
