WALDORF, Md. — Charles County Sheriff’s Office detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect or suspects in the 2003 murder of Lamon Wright, a 30-year-old mother of two who was shot outside her townhouse on Hadley Drive.

The shooting happened on April 7, 2003. Wright had just returned from dropping one daughter off at daycare when she was killed as she prepared to enter her home. Her other child was inside waiting for her. Detectives continue to investigate the case as a cold file more than two decades later.

Charles County Crime Solvers and the sheriff’s office are offering a combined cash reward of up to 10,000 dollars for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with details is urged to contact Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. All tips remain anonymous.

The case received renewed attention in recent years. In April 2024 and again in 2025, the sheriff’s office publicly appealed for assistance. Southern Maryland Chronicle reported on April 8, 2025, that detectives were renewing their call for public help in the 22-year-old cold case.

Wright, also known as Lamon Michelle “Shelly” Wright, was remembered in community posts and memorials as a young mother whose life ended abruptly that morning in Waldorf. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.

The murder occurred in a residential area of Waldorf in Charles County, part of Southern Maryland. Detectives have not released additional details about the circumstances of the shooting or any potential motive in the public appeals reviewed.

This case is one of several cold homicides the Charles County Sheriff’s Office continues to pursue. Similar public reminders appear periodically to keep the investigation active in the community.

Residents in Southern Maryland who may recall events from April 2003 or have since learned information are encouraged to come forward. Even small details could help move the case forward after 23 years.

The sheriff’s office emphasizes that anonymous tips have solved cases in the past. Crime Solvers provides a dedicated channel for information without requiring callers to identify themselves.

As of April 2026, the investigation remains open. Detectives ask anyone with knowledge to act now while the reward is available.

This renewed push for information comes as law enforcement across the region stresses the value of public partnerships in resolving long-term cases. Wright’s family has waited more than two decades for answers.

Anyone with information should call 1-866-411-TIPS immediately. The combined reward from Crime Solvers and the Charles County Sheriff’s Office stands at up to 10,000 dollars.
