ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — St. Mary’s College of Maryland athletes swept multiple United East Conference weekly honors this week, capping strong regular-season performances across lacrosse, track and field, and baseball while advancing into postseason play.

The men’s lacrosse team earned both offensive and defensive Player of the Week awards for the second time this season. Senior Joshua Martel of Linthicum, Md., took Offensive Player of the Week honors, while senior Joe Szymanski of Easton, Md., claimed Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced April 27.

Martel picked up his third career offensive weekly award. He recorded a goal and an assist with a ground ball and caused a turnover in a 12-8 win over the University of Mary Washington on April 21. Against the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford on Senior Day, April 25, the 5-8 attackman posted season highs of seven points on five goals and two assists in a 27-1 victory. He ranks ninth in the United East with 29 goals this season.

Szymanski secured his fourth defensive honor of the season. The 6-4 defenseman collected four ground balls and three caused turnovers while scoring once against Mary Washington. On Senior Day, he added seven ground balls, one caused turnover, a goal, and an assist. He sits second in the conference with 31 caused turnovers and fifth with 86 ground balls.

The Seahawks finished the regular season at 10-7. They host Cairn University (2-8) in the United East semifinals on Wednesday, April 29, at 3 p.m. at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.

On the women’s outdoor track and field side, sophomore Gracie Tourangeau of Sykesville, Md., earned United East Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honors Tuesday, her first career weekly award in the discipline. Tourangeau anchored the record-setting 4×400-meter relay at the Penn Relays on April 24, running a 58.55 split as St. Mary’s College clocked 3:58.39 to place sixth out of 16 teams and qualify for the College Women’s 4×400 Eastern finals. The time shattered the previous school record of 4:11.74 set on March 20 at the University of Richmond Fred Hardy Invite.

The Seahawks now hold the fastest 4×400 time in the United East and rank fifth in the Division III Mid-Atlantic Region. As defending conference champions, they will compete at the 2026 United East Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 2-3 at Keystone College in La Plume, Pa. The program also qualified for the All-Atlantic Region Championships May 13-14.

For the men’s outdoor track and field team, Collin Fitzgerald of Annapolis, Md., and Zack Kralec of Monkton, Md., were named United East Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively. Fitzgerald earned his fourth career outdoor weekly honor; Kralec picked up his second field award of the season.

Fitzgerald ran a 47.22 split on the second leg of the 4×400 relay at Penn Relays, helping St. Mary’s College post a 3:22.15 to finish 12th out of 18 teams and break the previous record of 3:29.01 set in 2022. The Seahawks hold the top 4×400 time in the United East and rank ninth regionally. They also qualified for the All-Atlantic Region Championships.

Kralec tied for seventh in the pole vault at 4.72 meters, the only Division III athlete in the top 10. He tied competitors from Bucknell, Army and Binghamton.

The men’s team will also compete at the United East Championships May 2-3 at Keystone College.

In baseball, first-year pitcher Colin Bashor of Severna Park, Md., was selected United East Pitcher of the Week on April 27, his first career honor. The Seahawks went 2-1-1 in their final regular-season week. Bashor threw 6.2 innings with a career-high 11 strikeouts and one hit allowed in a 15-2 victory in seven innings at Wilson College on April 21, earning his first win as a Seahawk. He is tied for ninth in the conference with 35 strikeouts.

St. Mary’s College (10-18-1), seeded fifth, travels to Lancaster, Pa., on Friday, May 1, to face fourth-seeded Lancaster Bible College in a best-of-three United East Baseball Championship series. First pitch for the doubleheader is noon; a decisive third game, if needed, is Saturday at noon.

These honors highlight the depth and momentum across St. Mary’s College of Maryland athletic programs as they head into championship competition. Local student-athletes continue to excel while representing Southern Maryland on regional and national stages.
