A 24-year-old Waldorf man died Wednesday night in a three-vehicle crash at a Fort Washington intersection that has now seen two fatal collisions this year.
Prince George’s County Police identified the driver killed as Blake Greenwell. Officers responded to Indian Head Highway and Palmer Road around 9:40 p.m. Sept. 2 and found an SUV and two sedans involved in the crash. Greenwell, driving one of the sedans, died at the scene. His passenger was ejected from the vehicle and taken to the hospital with injuries police described as not life-threatening. The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured.
According to the preliminary investigation, the two sedans were traveling northbound on Indian Head Highway approaching Palmer Road while the SUV was headed southbound when the three vehicles collided at the intersection. Investigators have not yet determined what caused the crash and are asking anyone who witnessed it, or who has dash-camera or home-surveillance footage that may have captured it, to come forward — even footage that may not seem significant, police said.
This is the second fatal crash at the same intersection this year. On April 29, a 28-year-old Washington, D.C. man died in a single-vehicle crash at Indian Head Highway and Palmer Road that began when an unmarked police vehicle followed his car after officers encountered him near a theft in progress at a nearby store. That earlier crash was unrelated to Wednesday’s collision, and Maryland’s Independent Investigations Division was notified but declined to investigate it.
