Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash on Maryland Route 210 in Bryans Road early Saturday morning.

Troopers from the La Plata Barrack and deputies from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Wooster Drive at approximately 12:45 a.m. on May 2 for a reported serious collision. The Maryland State Police CRASH Team assumed the investigation.

Preliminary findings show 46-year-old James Anthony Williams of Bryans Road was standing in the southbound lane of MD Route 210 when he was struck by a 2014 Honda CR-V driven by a 20-year-old man from Nanjemoy. Williams landed in the roadway and was then struck by a 2016 Toyota Prius driven by a 44-year-old woman from Bryans Road.

Williams was transported by helicopter to Capital Region Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Both drivers refused medical treatment at the scene and remained to cooperate with investigators.

MD Route 210, also known as Indian Head Highway, is a heavily traveled corridor connecting Charles County communities to the Washington, D.C., area. The section near Wooster Drive sees regular commuter and local traffic, and pedestrian incidents have drawn attention in recent years.

The incident is classified under case number 26-MSP-013585. Lanes were closed for several hours while the CRASH Team worked the scene. Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with traffic control.

Maryland State Police remind all road users to stay alert, especially in low-light conditions. Motorists should watch for pedestrians and reduce speed in areas with limited lighting or shoulders.
