A 23-year-old man from Bryans Road in Charles County was killed Friday morning when his car collided with a Prince George’s County school bus in Accokeek.
Dequan Gravely died at the scene of the crash at the intersection of Indian Head Highway and Pine Drive. The accident occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m. on May 8.
According to the preliminary investigation by the Maryland State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit, Gravely was traveling northbound on Indian Head Highway approaching Pine Drive. The school bus was turning left from southbound Indian Head Highway onto Pine Drive. The vehicles collided in the intersection, causing the bus to flip onto its side. Debris from the crash damaged a third vehicle.
The bus driver suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The driver of the third vehicle declined medical attention. No students were on the bus at the time of the crash.
The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is leading the active and ongoing investigation. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact the unit at 301-731-4422.
