Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Cameron Chase has been named the 2025 American Legion Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for both Southern Maryland District 6 and the Southern Maryland Region.

The prestigious regional honor recognizes Deputy Chase’s exemplary service, leadership and commitment to protecting and serving the community. He was formally recognized during the Southern Maryland Region meeting held at Harry White Wilmer American Legion Post 85 in La Plata on Saturday, May 9, 2026, alongside Southern Maryland Region Commander Melvin Graves.

The American Legion Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award is presented annually to officers who demonstrate outstanding professionalism, community involvement and dedication to public safety. In a region that includes Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties, the award highlights the critical role local law enforcement plays in maintaining safety along the Chesapeake Bay and in communities that support Naval Air Station Patuxent River.

Deputy Chase has built a strong reputation within the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office for his reliability, professionalism and positive impact on both colleagues and residents. His selection as the top officer in Southern Maryland District 6 and the broader region underscores the high standards of service maintained by Calvert County deputies who patrol rural roads, waterfront communities and growing residential areas in one of Maryland’s fastest-growing counties.

Calvert County Sheriff’s Office officials praised Chase as an exemplary public servant whose work reflects the department’s core mission of protecting and serving. The recognition comes as the sheriff’s office continues to strengthen community partnerships and respond to the unique needs of a county that balances agricultural heritage, waterfront living and proximity to major employment centers.

The award also highlights the important collaboration between law enforcement and veterans’ organizations like the American Legion. American Legion posts across Southern Maryland play a vital role in supporting first responders and honoring the shared values of service and sacrifice. The May 9 ceremony provided an opportunity for veterans and law enforcement leaders to come together in recognition of outstanding achievement.

For Calvert County residents, Deputy Chase’s honor represents the dedication of local officers who work every day to keep families safe in communities from Chesapeake Beach and North Beach to Prince Frederick, Lusby and beyond. The sheriff’s office serves a county with a mix of suburban growth, rural landscapes and waterfront properties, where deputies often respond to everything from traffic safety to emergency calls in areas with limited resources.

The 2025 award cycle recognizes officers whose daily actions exemplify the highest standards of the profession. Deputy Chase’s selection places him among the region’s most respected law enforcement professionals and brings pride to Calvert County and the entire Southern Maryland law enforcement community.

St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and Charles County Sheriff’s Office leaders joined in congratulating Deputy Chase, noting the strong partnerships that exist across the tri-county area. Southern Maryland law enforcement agencies frequently collaborate on major incidents, training exercises and community safety initiatives that benefit residents from all three counties.

The American Legion continues to play a key role in recognizing first responders throughout Maryland. The organization’s support for law enforcement officers helps strengthen the bond between veterans, active-duty military personnel and the men and women who protect local communities.

Calvert County Sheriff’s Office officials said Deputy Chase’s recognition serves as an inspiration to other deputies and reinforces the department’s commitment to professional excellence and community service.
