Charles County detectives have charged a Lusby man with burglary, theft and destruction of property after a break-in at the Swan Point Golf Course pro shop in Swan Point.

Garfield L. Northey, 50, of Lusby, was arrested on May 19, 2026, after detectives served a search warrant at his residence with assistance from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office. Property stolen during the burglary was recovered during the search, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

The break-in occurred around 9:35 p.m. on May 3, 2026. Patrol officers responded to a reported burglary at the pro shop, a small retail building at the public golf course located along the Potomac River in southern Charles County. Investigators determined that a male suspect used a pry tool to force entry into the business and stole approximately $5,300 worth of golf clubs and golf balls before fleeing the scene.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division took over the case and identified Northey as a suspect. On May 19 they executed the search warrant at his home. Northey was present during the search and was taken into custody without incident.

He was transported to the Charles County Detention Center and charged with burglary, theft and destruction of property. Following an appearance before a District Court commissioner, Northey was released on personal recognizance. Detective Bigelow is the lead investigator.

The pro shop serves both local golfers and visitors to the area, which is known for its scenic views of the Potomac River and proximity to the Chesapeake Bay. Burglaries targeting small retail businesses like pro shops are relatively uncommon in Charles County, but when they occur they can have a direct impact on local small businesses that rely on seasonal golf revenue.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional details about how Northey was identified as a suspect or whether surveillance footage or other evidence played a role in the investigation. The case remains active.
