Michael Alvaro Monjaras-Ramos, 21, of Waldorf

A Waldorf man is facing drug distribution and multiple firearm charges after a traffic stop in Indian Head early Monday morning led to the recovery of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a loaded privately made firearm.

On May 18, 2026, at approximately 3:39 a.m., a Charles County officer initiated a traffic stop on Chicamuxen Road near High Ground Farm Place. The driver, later identified as Michael Alvaro Monjaras-Ramos, 21, of Waldorf, slowed but continued traveling a short distance. During that time, officers observed the driver placing items into the back seat of the vehicle.

The driver eventually stopped. Upon further investigation, officers recovered approximately $1,700 worth of methamphetamine, a digital scale, packaging materials consistent with drug distribution, a loaded 9mm privately made firearm, and a large quantity of ammunition.

Monjaras-Ramos was arrested and transported to the Charles County Detention Center. He was charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and multiple firearm-related offenses. He is currently being held without bond. PFC Heishman made the arrest.

Chicamuxen Road is a two-lane road in the Indian Head area of southern Charles County, running through a mix of residential neighborhoods and rural farmland near the Potomac River. Early morning traffic stops in this area are not uncommon, but the combination of suspected narcotics and an unserialized privately made firearm raises concerns about illegal drug activity and the growing presence of ghost guns in the region.

Privately made firearms, often referred to as “ghost guns,” do not have serial numbers and have become an increasing focus of law enforcement across Maryland and the country because they are difficult to trace. Maryland law prohibits the manufacture and possession of such firearms without proper serialization in many circumstances.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional details about the traffic stop or whether the driver was wanted on any prior warrants. The investigation remains active.
