CHESAPEAKE BEACH — Mayor Bruce Wahl of Chesapeake Beach has been nominated to serve on the 2026-2027 Board of Directors of the Maryland Municipal League, the organization announced.

The Maryland Municipal League is Maryland’s statewide organization representing incorporated cities and towns. The Board of Directors serves as the governing body between membership meetings and helps guide the organization’s advocacy efforts, legislative priorities and strategic direction on behalf of municipalities across the state.

Wahl has a longstanding history of leadership within the League, having previously served as its president. Throughout his public service career, he has worked alongside municipal leaders from across Maryland to advance policies, share best practices and strengthen local government.

As mayor of Chesapeake Beach in Calvert County, Wahl has championed initiatives focused on community development, environmental stewardship, infrastructure investment and regional collaboration — priorities that directly benefit Southern Maryland residents in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties.

“Maryland’s municipalities are strongest when we work together to address common challenges and share innovative solutions,” said Mayor Wahl. “I am honored to be nominated and look forward to continuing to support communities across the state.”

The nomination reflects Wahl’s continued commitment to municipal leadership and public service at both the local and statewide levels. Chesapeake Beach, a waterfront community in northern Calvert County, relies on strong municipal advocacy for issues such as bay protection, tourism, infrastructure funding and emergency preparedness — all areas where the Maryland Municipal League plays a key role.

Electronic voting for the 2026-2027 Maryland Municipal League Board of Directors election will take place from June 5 through June 12, 2026. Election results will be announced during the Maryland Municipal League Summer Conference.

The Town of Chesapeake Beach congratulated Mayor Wahl on the nomination and thanked him for his continued service to the residents of Chesapeake Beach and municipalities throughout Maryland.

Wahl’s potential return to the MML Board comes at a time when Southern Maryland municipalities face shared challenges including coastal resilience, affordable housing, transportation improvements and economic development. The League provides a unified voice for smaller towns like Chesapeake Beach in Annapolis and Washington, D.C.

The Maryland Municipal League supports more than 150 incorporated municipalities across the state. Its board helps set policy direction on issues ranging from infrastructure funding and public safety to environmental protection and local government autonomy.

Chesapeake Beach residents can follow the election and board activities through the town’s website and the Maryland Municipal League. The League offers resources, training and networking opportunities for elected officials and staff from towns and cities throughout Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties.

Mayor Wahl’s nomination underscores the active role Southern Maryland leaders play in shaping statewide municipal policy. His experience as a former MML president positions him to continue advocating for the unique needs of waterfront and rural communities in the region.

The Town of Chesapeake Beach is located along the Chesapeake Bay in northern Calvert County and is known for its beaches, boardwalk and family-friendly atmosphere. Strong local leadership has helped the town navigate growth while preserving its coastal character.
