ALTOONA, Pa. — The Chesapeake Baysox defeated the Altoona Curve 11-4 on Tuesday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Left-hander Joseph Dzierwa delivered five shutout innings and struck out six in his fourth Double-A start. He escaped trouble in the second inning after a walk and double put runners in scoring position, then struck out a batter and induced a double play after a hit by pitch loaded the bases.
Chesapeake took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Doug Hodo, returning from the injured list, hit a two-run double. Hodo later scored on a wild pitch, with all three runs charged to Altoona starter Josh Loeschorn.

The Baysox added four runs in the sixth on an Ethan Anderson double that scored two and RBI singles from Anderson De Los Santos and Thomas Sosa to make the score 7-0. Hodo collected his third hit of the night with an RBI double in the seventh.
Altoona scored two runs in the seventh and eighth, but Chesapeake answered with two more in the ninth. Aron Estrada extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI double and later scored on a De Los Santos single.
Seven Baysox players recorded hits, and all nine reached base. Dzierwa earned the win to improve to 1-1.
Chesapeake improved to 24-33 overall. The Baysox will look to extend their winning streak on Wednesday night when left-hander Sebastian Gongora faces Curve right-hander Peyton Stumbo at 6 p.m.
