ARNOLD, Md. — Anne Arundel Community College has appointed Clayton Railey III, Ph.D., as interim provost and vice president for Learning.

The appointment takes effect July 1, 2026. It follows the retirement of President Dawn Lindsay and the move of current Provost Tanya Millner to interim president.

“We are fortunate to have someone of Dr. Railey’s caliber step into the provost role,” Millner said. “His extensive expertise in teaching and learning, administration, accreditation and curriculum development ensures that our students, faculty and staff will continue to receive the highest level of academic leadership and support.”

Railey brings decades of higher education leadership experience. He previously served as executive vice president and provost at Prince George’s Community College, vice president of workforce and academic programs at Chesapeake College, and provost at Bucks County Community College. He retired from Prince George’s Community College in December 2024.

Throughout his career, Railey also served as a dean, department chair and faculty member. He holds a doctorate in English as well as graduate degrees in theology and American studies. He previously taught American studies at Anne Arundel Community College.

“I am honored that Dr. Millner would ask me to serve in such a critical position for the college, and I look forward to working with my new colleagues, especially the faculty at AACC, to serve our students in their efforts to achieve their goals,” Railey said.

The college is conducting a national search for its next president. The goal is to name a new president by December 2026 with a preferred start date of July 2027. Applications and nominations are being accepted through Aug. 4, 2026. Additional information about the search is available on the college website.

Anne Arundel Community College serves students from Anne Arundel County and surrounding areas, including many from Southern Maryland. The institution offers associate degrees, workforce training programs and transfer pathways to four-year universities.

Interim leadership appointments help maintain continuity during periods of transition. Railey’s background in curriculum development and accreditation positions him to support ongoing academic initiatives at the college.
