LA PLATA, Md. — The College of Southern Maryland has hired Scott Kopicko as the new head coach of its men’s soccer program.

Kopicko most recently served as the junior varsity head coach at Leonardtown High School in St. Mary’s County. During his time on staff, the Raiders compiled a 30-2-4 record over the past three seasons and were part of the program’s state championship success. He has also coached extensively with St. Mary’s County soccer programs and most recently served as a women’s travel coach with Southern Maryland Rush.

Kopicko holds a US Soccer “D” coaching license along with multiple United Soccer Federation certifications. He emphasizes player development both on and off the field, focusing on building life skills through the sport. He plans to maintain strong relationships with players while upholding team values of commitment, persistence, and hard work.

“I am honored to be part of a program with a long history of great soccer in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference,” Kopicko said. “I am excited to be part of the future of CSM and look forward to advancing the program to the next level.”

Kopicko enters his 20th year of coaching and will begin his first season at the collegiate level. A graduate of Slippery Rock University with a degree in education, he works as a teacher in St. Mary’s County. He grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The hiring comes as CSM continues to build its athletic programs with an emphasis on developing local talent. Kopicko has expressed a strong interest in harnessing the depth of soccer talent in Southern Maryland to create a positive team culture rooted in strong values.

CSM competes in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference, where the men’s soccer program has a longstanding tradition of competitive play. The addition of Kopicko is expected to bring continuity between local high school programs and the collegiate level.
