WALDORF, Md. — A Silver Spring man has been charged in connection with the kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman in Charles County last month, authorities announced. Detectives with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division identified 27-year-old Bryan Neal Gordon as the suspect following a rapid investigation that connected him to a similar incident in Anne Arundel County.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident unfolded around 10:30 p.m. on June 28 in the 2200 block of Old Washington Road in Waldorf. The victim had arranged to meet an individual and entered his vehicle. Once inside, the suspect allegedly claimed to be a police officer, handcuffed her, physically assaulted her, and drove her to another location where he sexually assaulted her. The woman managed to escape several hours later and contacted 9-1-1. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Charles County detectives pursued leads and discovered that early the next morning, on June 29, Maryland Transportation Authority Police arrested Gordon in Anne Arundel County following a traffic stop near BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. In that separate case, a woman escaped from his vehicle during the stop and reported being handcuffed and kidnapped under similar circumstances — with the suspect again posing as law enforcement.
A search warrant executed on Gordon’s vehicle yielded evidence directly linking him to the Charles County assault, prompting detectives to obtain an arrest warrant. He now faces charges including kidnapping, false imprisonment, and other related offenses. Gordon is currently held without bond at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, which handles major crimes including sexual assaults through its Persons Crimes Section and Special Victims Unit, led the probe. Detective Singh is spearheading the effort and is urging anyone who may have been approached by Gordon to contact him at 301-609-6471. The investigation remains ongoing.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about personal safety in Southern Maryland, particularly in areas like Waldorf, a growing commercial hub in Charles County. Officials have not released further details about the victim or specific locations to protect her privacy and the integrity of the active case. Sexual assault and kidnapping investigations often involve sensitive victim services, including coordination with Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) programs at local hospitals.
Charles County, part of the rapidly developing Southern Maryland region near the nation’s capital, has seen increased law enforcement focus on violent crimes amid population growth. The sheriff’s office emphasizes community vigilance and swift response to such incidents. In the Anne Arundel case, Gordon — identified variably in reports as 24 or 27 — was stopped for an illegal turn while driving a black Chevrolet Malibu. The victim there exited the vehicle during the stop and alerted officers.
Authorities stress that these allegations are serious and that Gordon is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The linkage between the two incidents through vehicle evidence and similar tactics underscores the importance of inter-agency collaboration between the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland Transportation Authority Police, and other partners.
Residents in Waldorf and surrounding areas are reminded to exercise caution when meeting individuals, verify identities, and report suspicious activity promptly. The sheriff’s office continues to investigate potential additional victims or connections. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of online or arranged meetings and the need for robust public safety measures in the community.
Southern Maryland’s law enforcement agencies maintain strong partnerships to address violent crime, with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office playing a central role in protecting residents across the tri-county area. Updates will be provided as the judicial process advances
