NORTH BEACH, Md. — The Town of North Beach is implementing new security protocols for its popular First Fridays boardwalk festival to enhance public safety amid growing attendance. In partnership with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, officials announced the changes effective immediately while aiming to maintain the family-friendly atmosphere of the waterfront event.

The adjustments include increased law enforcement presence, controlled access points with security screening, wristbands for attendees, and a requirement that minors younger than 18 be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Unaccompanied minors will not be granted access. Backpacks are prohibited, and face coverings or masks that conceal identity are banned except for legitimate medical reasons. Individuals who do not comply with event rules may be denied entry or asked to leave.

“The safety of our residents, visitors, businesses and staff is our highest priority,” Mayor Michael “Mike” Benton said. “To help ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, the Town will implement these additional safety measures.”

The enhanced protocols are designed to improve crowd management, strengthen emergency response capabilities, and address increased attendance at the monthly summer gatherings. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and prepare for screening at designated access points. The Town will continue evaluating conditions and law enforcement recommendations throughout the season.

First Fridays in North Beach typically feature live music, vendors, dining, and community activities along the boardwalk, drawing visitors from across Southern Maryland and beyond. Officials emphasized that the changes aim to preserve the event’s appeal while prioritizing safety.

Residents and visitors are urged to report suspicious activity, unattended items, unsafe behavior, or emergencies immediately to event staff or law enforcement. Official rules and updates are available on the Town of North Beach website and Facebook page.

The Town of North Beach, located in northern Calvert County, continues to balance vibrant community events with responsible public safety measures. These adjustments reflect ongoing efforts to support local businesses and provide positive experiences for families in the region.
