Dr. Gabriel Gondolesi, director of Pediatric Liver Transplantation and associate director of Intestinal Transplantation at MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute, has been named president-elect of The Transplantation Society (TTS).
His two-year term will begin in September following the TTS 2026 Congress in Sydney, Australia. TTS serves as a leading international forum advancing organ transplantation worldwide.
“As a transplant surgeon originally trained in Argentina, I am particularly honored to represent Latin America as the first TTS president-elect from the region,” Dr. Gondolesi said. “This achievement represents the culmination of 25 years of involvement with TTS, progressing from member to vice president and now president-elect.”
Dr. Gondolesi specializes in pediatric liver transplants and comprehensive care for both pediatric and adult intestinal transplant patients. He employs a multidisciplinary, holistic approach focused on optimal outcomes for patients and families.
“We are fortunate to have Dr. Gondolesi here at MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital,” said Thomas Fishbein, MD, executive director of the institute. “His success raises awareness of our programs and reflects our level of excellence.”
Dr. Gondolesi earned his medical degree from the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the National University of La Plata in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He completed residency at Pavilion Finochietto of General San Martin Hospital in La Plata and fellowships in liver transplant and hepatobiliary surgery at Fundación Favaloro in Buenos Aires, plus multiorgan transplantation at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. His research appears in numerous peer-reviewed journals.
The milestone underscores growing international diversity in leadership of major medical societies and highlights the expertise available through MedStar Georgetown’s transplant programs serving the broader region.
