The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County have appointed Glenn Mains as the new Chief Information Officer to lead the county’s Information Technology Department.
Mains brings more than 30 years of information technology experience, including over two decades in executive leadership roles within local government. His expertise encompasses enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, infrastructure management, applications development and technology modernization.
Most recently, he served as Chief Technology Officer and Associate Director of Enterprise Architecture for Prince George’s County Government, where he directed technology strategy supporting more than 30 county agencies. Throughout his career, Mains has led large-scale initiatives in network infrastructure, data center operations, telecommunications, cloud modernization and cybersecurity governance.
Mains holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems, a Master of Science in Computer Management and a Master of Business Administration in Finance. He also serves as an adjunct instructor, mentoring future information technology professionals.

Mains expressed enthusiasm for joining the county he has called home since 2010. “I am honored to join St. Mary’s County Government as Chief Information Officer and look forward to serving the community,” he said. “Technology plays a vital role in delivering efficient, secure, and reliable public services, and I am excited to work alongside the talented employees across County Government to strengthen our technology infrastructure, enhance cybersecurity, and support innovative solutions that benefit both our workforce and the residents we serve.”
Mains will assume the role effective July 27, 2026. The Information Technology Department provides critical services including cybersecurity, network infrastructure, business applications, technical support and strategic technology planning.
