The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 61-year-old man found August 11 behind a vacant business in Lusby, according to a release from the agency’s Criminal Investigations Bureau.
Deputies located the man face down on the ground in the rear parking-lot area of the vacant building in the 11700 block of H.G. Trueman Road. The Sheriff’s Office said the remains showed significant decomposition, and personal property believed to belong to the man was found nearby.
Detectives said the man had reportedly been experiencing homelessness and had recently been staying at a residence in Lusby. During the investigation, authorities learned he had been asked to leave that residence and had told others he planned to stay in a wooded area behind the vacant business — the same area where he was later found.
Crime scene personnel documented the scene, conducted an external examination of the man’s remains, and inventoried the property recovered nearby, the release said.
The man’s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The Sheriff’s Office said the case remains open pending the results of an autopsy, and no cause or manner of death has been determined.
The Sheriff’s Office has not released the man’s name.
