Calvert County Parks & Recreation is retiring Facebook as its go-to source for field and pool closures, launching a new online Amenity Status Dashboard Monday, Aug. 17, to give residents, coaches, and athletic organizations a single, real-time place to check conditions.

The dashboard was built in-house by the Calvert County Department of Technology Services working with Parks & Recreation, rather than through third-party software, a choice the county says saves taxpayer money. It shows real-time status for athletic fields and outdoor pools affected by weather and other conditions, viewable from a computer, tablet, or smartphone before heading out to a practice, game, or other activity.

Starting Aug. 17, the county will no longer post athletic field and outdoor pool closures on Facebook. Residents are encouraged to bookmark the new dashboard, available at calvertcountymd.gov/CCPRDashboard, as their primary source going forward. The Weather Hotline, at 410-535-1600, ext. 2640, remains available as a backup for field updates; weather-related cancellations are typically posted by around 3 p.m.

The dashboard is the latest example of Calvert County building its own technology tools rather than paying for outside software — the same approach that recently earned the county’s Technology Services department a National Association of Counties award for AI governance and internal system development, and helped Calvert rank sixth nationally in this year’s Digital Counties Survey for the fourth consecutive year.
