SOUTHERN MARYLAND — Monday, Aug. 24, is shaping up to be one of the quieter weather days of the week across Southern Maryland, with mostly sunny skies, light west to northwest winds and little to no rain expected across Charles, Calvert and St. Mary’s counties.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for highs generally in the lower to mid-80s across the three-county region. Prince Frederick is expected to reach about 83 degrees, while Leonardtown is forecast near 84. Similar temperatures are expected across Charles County.

The regional forecast calls for a high near 82 to 84 degrees, with mostly sunny to sunny conditions through much of the day. Winds should remain relatively light, generally from the west or northwest at around 5 to 10 mph.

Rain chances are very low. Forecast guidance for Prince Frederick shows no meaningful daytime precipitation threat, and Leonardtown is also expected to remain dry. Supplemental guidance places Monday’s rain chance near 5% or less in parts of Southern Maryland.

That should make Monday favorable for commuting, outdoor work, yard projects and other daytime activities.

Humidity is also expected to be lower than during the more unsettled weather that affected the region over the weekend, helping the day feel more comfortable despite afternoon temperatures in the 80s.

Monday night will remain mostly clear across Southern Maryland. Overnight lows are forecast to fall into the lower 60s in many locations, with some inland spots potentially dipping into the upper 50s. Leonardtown is forecast near 63 degrees Monday night, while Prince Frederick is expected around 62 to 63.

No widespread hazardous weather is expected Monday, and there are no significant storm or flooding concerns in the current forecast.

The calm start to the week will not necessarily last. Forecast guidance shows moisture and thunderstorm chances beginning to increase later in the week, particularly by Wednesday night and Thursday, but Monday itself should remain dry and quiet.

Residents should still check updated forecasts before extended outdoor plans, but Monday currently appears to be one of the better weather days of the week across Southern Maryland.
