A Lexington Park man is facing 11 charges after deputies say they found a handgun and suspected drugs during a traffic stop on Great Mills Road last week, according to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were conducting proactive patrol along Great Mills Road on Friday, Aug. 21, when they stopped a Subaru Outback for an equipment violation. During the stop, K-9 Maja conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle and gave a positive alert for the presence of narcotics. Deputies then searched the vehicle and located a bag in the trunk containing a Walther PK380 handgun and a magazine loaded with unspent live rounds. Trace amounts of suspected controlled dangerous substances were also found.
The front-seat passenger, identified as Terrance Marquis Savoy, 34, of Lexington Park, was arrested and charged with 11 counts:
- Possession of a regulated firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence
- Knowingly possessing a regulated firearm while on supervised probation
- Knowingly possessing a regulated firearm after conviction of a disqualifying misdemeanor
- Knowingly possessing a regulated firearm after conviction of a disqualifying felony
- Knowingly transporting a handgun in a vehicle on public roads
- Transporting a handgun on or about his person
- Transporting a loaded handgun on or about his person
- Possession of ammunition while prohibited from possessing a regulated firearm
- Knowingly transporting a loaded handgun in a vehicle on public roads
- Possession of a controlled dangerous substance: cocaine
- Possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia
Savoy was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, where he is being held without bond pending a court appearance.
The Sheriff’s Office did not release additional details about the driver of the vehicle or whether further charges are expected. The investigation remains ongoing.
