Southern Maryland will see another warm and mostly dry day Wednesday, Aug. 26, before shower and thunderstorm chances increase overnight and into Thursday.
The National Weather Service forecast calls for mostly sunny skies across the region Wednesday, with afternoon highs generally in the mid-to-upper 80s. Leonardtown is expected to reach about 86 degrees, while Waldorf could climb to around 88. Winds will remain light early before becoming southerly during the afternoon.
Humidity will increase compared with Tuesday, but daytime conditions should remain favorable for school, commuting, outdoor work and evening activities. Little to no rain is expected during the day.
The weather begins to change Wednesday night. In Leonardtown, the National Weather Service shows a chance of showers and thunderstorms developing late, with a low near 70. Waldorf also has a chance of showers and thunderstorms overnight, with lows around 70.
Residents should keep an eye on the forecast heading into Thursday.

For Wednesday, however, the main story remains warm and mostly quiet weather.
Those with outdoor plans should expect temperatures in the mid-to-upper 80s, increasing humidity and light southerly winds. The best chance for rain arrives late Wednesday night, with a wetter and stormier setup possible Thursday.
