Gabrielle Casetta scored three goals to lead the College of Southern Maryland women’s soccer team to a 5-1 win over CCBC Catonsville on Tuesday, marking new head coach Thomas Wasley’s debut in charge of the Hawks.
Casetta opened the scoring in the 16th minute off an assist from Lily Stiffler, then struck again in the 27th minute on another Stiffler assist before adding an unassisted goal in the 34th minute to put CSM up 3-0 at the break. The Hawks kept the pressure on after halftime: Yaliyah Reyes scored unassisted in the 49th minute, and Stiffler capped the outburst with her own unassisted goal in the 51st minute to make it 5-0. Catonsville avoided the shutout with a late goal from Stephanie Ohl in the 85th minute, assisted by Jana Alharbi.
Goalkeeper Raynna Ratchford earned the win in net with five saves, while Catonsville’s Kayla Cox turned away 10 shots in the loss.
The victory opens Wasley’s tenure on a high note for a program that came within one win of a conference title last season. CSM went 13-4-1 in 2025 and, as the No. 1 seed and 22nd-ranked team nationally, advanced to the NJCAA Region 20 Championship game before falling to 18th-ranked Anne Arundel — the program’s first appearance in that title game since 2013. Wasley, hired in June, brings more than 20 years of coaching experience, including stints with DC Soccer, Stafford Soccer, and Vienna Soccer, and played collegiately at William Carey University in Mississippi before finishing his playing career at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, where he earned All-Academic honors.
“My college soccer experience shaped who I am as both a coach and a person,” Wasley said upon his hiring. “It is my goal to help players understand the privilege of representing and playing for a college soccer team. Not everyone has the opportunity to compete at this level.”
