Maryland’s sports wagering market generated $7,018,667 in state contributions during August 2026, according to the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency. Through the first two months of Fiscal Year 2027, the program has generated nearly $15.5 million for the state.
Of August’s total, $5,284,434 went to public education programs supported by the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, while $1,734,232 in mobile wagering proceeds went to the state’s General Fund. Since the sports wagering program launched in December 2021, it has sent $288,727,902 to the Blueprint Fund, $36,438,630 to the General Fund, and $5,754,189 in expired prizes to the state’s Problem Gambling Fund.
Retail sportsbook operators contribute 15% of their taxable proceeds to the Blueprint Fund, while mobile operators split a 20% rate between the two funds — 15% to the Blueprint Fund and 5% to the General Fund.
Sports bettors wagered $465,906,572 statewide during August and were paid back $420,652,313 in prizes, leaving sportsbook operators holding 9.7% of the total amount wagered. Mobile platforms accounted for the vast majority of activity, with $458,767,841 in handle compared to $7,138,732 at retail locations; mobile operators held 9.7% of their handle, compared to 8.2% for retail sportsbooks.
Maryland’s sports wagering program is regulated by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, which oversees a mix of retail sportsbooks at casinos and racetracks alongside mobile betting apps. No retail sportsbooks operate directly in Southern Maryland, so residents typically place in-person bets at facilities like MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County or Live! Casino & Hotel in Anne Arundel County, or use mobile apps such as DraftKings, FanDuel and Caesars. The resulting Blueprint Fund revenue flows back to support public education statewide, including in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties.
August’s contribution comes after Maryland’s sports wagering market posted an 16.6% year-over-year increase in July, continuing the program’s growth trend into the new fiscal year.
