Twenty-one years ago today, at approximately 2:50 p.m., officers with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Days Inn hotel in Waldorf for a report of an unconscious male. They found the victim near the front desk of the lobby, suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as Jerry Alan Wills III, a 19-year-old Waldorf resident who worked at the hotel. He was, in the words of investigators, “a loving son and brother who enjoyed playing basketball, swimming, and reading.” More than two decades later, no arrest has been made in his killing.
Charles County Crime Solvers and the Charles County Sheriff’s Office are renewing their appeal for information, offering a combined cash reward of up to $10,000 for tips leading to the arrest and indictment of the suspect or suspects responsible. This is not the first time the case has been publicized. The Southern Maryland Chronicle reported on the case’s 20th anniversary last September, and investigators continue to seek tips each year on the anniversary of Wills’ death in hopes that new information — or a change of heart from someone who has stayed silent — will finally lead to answers for his family.
