The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County (CSMC) approved a lease agreement with the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) for the Wellness and Aquatics Center during their Sept. 22 business meeting, securing continued county operation of the popular facility on CSM’s Leonardtown campus.
The Wellness and Aquatics Center, located at 22950 Hollywood Road in Leonardtown, has been run by St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks since it opened in 2021, even though the building itself sits on CSM’s campus. The facility includes a 25-yard competition pool, a warm-water therapy pool with zero-depth entry, a weight training room and two group fitness and dance studios, and offers group fitness classes, swim lessons, personal training and party rentals to residents of all ages.
The lease approval came during County Administrator Time, alongside a full slate of other business items the commissioners took up at the same meeting, including a sublease of the Carver Recreation Center with the St. Mary’s County Arts Council and PaxSpace Inc., and approval of a Department of Emergency Services reorganization.
The commissioners’ action ensures the county-run programming at the center — a resource that has become a fixture for local swim lessons, fitness classes and therapy pool access — continues uninterrupted at its current Leonardtown campus location.
