Two days after digging out of a two-set hole, the St. Mary’s College of Maryland volleyball team made quick work of its next opponent. The Seahawks swept Regent University 25-19, 25-15, 25-22 Monday night at Norfolk Christian School.
The win is the second straight for St. Mary’s (9-5, 1-0 United East), which rallied from two sets down to beat Cairn University 3-2 on Saturday in its conference opener. Regent fell to 7-7.
St. Mary’s controlled the match at the net. The Seahawks hit .221 to Regent’s .036 and outkilled the Royals 42-23.
How it happened
The Seahawks took the first set 25-19 behind 13 kills. They held Regent to seven kills and eight attack errors in 40 swings, a hitting percentage of -.025.
St. Mary’s was sharpest in the second set, recording 15 kills, its most in any set, and hitting .273. Regent never tied the set, and the Seahawks pulled away 25-15 for a 2-0 lead.
Regent made its push in the third. The Royals hit .138, their best mark of the night, and the set featured eight ties and five lead changes. St. Mary’s held on to close it out 25-22.
Inside the box score
Julia Bobrowski led all players with 13 kills on 28 swings, hitting .393. She added 10 digs for a double-double. The Leonardtown native passed 1,000 career digs earlier this month.
Maya Mauro added 12 kills, eight digs and a solo block. Sanaa Porter had five kills, five digs and a team-high three solo blocks.
Lauren Panageotou ran the offense with 16 assists, four digs and a service ace. Camryn Sapp chipped in 13 assists and seven digs. Stella Marrero led the back row with 18 digs and added five assists and an ace.
As a team, St. Mary’s finished with 40 assists and 67 digs.
For Regent, Claire Keefer had a team-high 10 kills but hit .048 on 42 attempts. Mykenah Antenore had a match-high 20 digs and three of the Royals’ four aces, and Rylee Stewart handed out 15 assists.

St. Mary’s returns home Wednesday, Sept. 30, to host Lancaster Bible College in United East play. First serve is 7 p.m. at the Michael P. O’Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena. The Chargers (4-5, 1-0 United East) come in on a three-match winning streak. The match will be streamed on the Seahawks’ athletics website.
The defending United East champions then stay home Friday, Oct. 2, for a Dig Pink match against McDaniel at 7 p.m.
