PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County crews started upgrading a water pump station at the Calvert County Industrial Park in Prince Frederick at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. The work is scheduled to run through 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, weather permitting, and the county is asking water customers to cut back on use until it’s finished.

The county’s Department of Public Works, Water & Sewerage Division, said in its Oct. 7 announcement that it does not expect any disruption to water service. Even so, it asked residents and businesses to conserve as much water as possible while the station is being upgraded.

What to expect

For most customers, the request is simple: hold off on water-heavy chores where possible. Running the dishwasher or washing machine only with full loads, delaying car washing, skipping outdoor watering and fixing running toilets or dripping faucets all reduce demand on the system while the station is being worked on.

The bigger change is for bulk water haulers, the contractors and water-delivery services that fill tanker trucks from the county’s bulk hydrants. The bulk water hydrants inside the industrial park will be out of service for the duration of the project. Instead, haulers can use two temporary hydrants that will be clearly marked on Prince Frederick Boulevard, just south of Stoakley Road.

A holiday-weekend job

The four-day window spans the Columbus Day weekend, so three of the four project days fall on the weekend and the holiday. County offices are closed Monday, Oct. 12, including the Water & Sewerage Division’s billing and customer service office, so residents with billing questions should plan to call after the holiday.

Because the schedule depends on the weather, the end date could shift. Questions or concerns about the project can be directed to the Water & Sewerage Division at 410-535-1600, ext. 2329. County updates are also posted through its mobile app, newsletters and social media, which residents can sign up for at CalvertCountyMd.gov/StayInformed.
