Head races like the Head of the Ohio are time trials over a long course, with boats starting at intervals rather than side by side, and they make up the fall college rowing season.

St. Mary’s women’s rowing raced the same day and came away with an event win, as Abigail Rowe took the women’s lightweight single and Olivia Barr finished second.

A year ago, the men’s program opened its fall season later, at the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia in late October.
