Our Spotlight on the Arts shines brightly on local artist, Brandon Grenier!

We came across Brandon’s work on Instagram back in 2017 and were immediately entranced!

From mythical sea dwellers, jousting pawns, celestial warriors, and other fascinating creations, Grenier flawlessly intertwines different worlds into his paintings. There are many fine details–often on minute levels–reflected meticulously in his work.

How long have you been involved with painting?

I have been into creating art since elementary school. I started painting with more focus about 14 years ago.

Who have been your past and present inspirations?

My past inspirations have been from peers and art projects in high school classes as I eventually developed my own style.

I currently find inspiration from the art community. My favorite places are gallery or council events hosted by the CalvART Gallery and at the St. Mary’s County Arts Council Gallery & Gift Shop.

Tattoo shops like Red Octopus and Mr. Lucky are also great locations to visit. Tattoo conventions and events like Artsfest at the Annmarie Sculpture and Art Gardens are also amazing places.

Some of my favorite artists include Greg Simkins, Bob Ross, Salvador Dali, and Ralph Steadman.

Do you have a favorite aspect of what you do?

I have always enjoyed the pop surrealism style and the freedom of dreamscape and dreamlike art with a touch of traditional style of painting.

Is your artwork available for purchase from any of the local shops or galleries?

Yes! My work is available for purchase at two wonderful locations – the CalvART Gallery in Prince Frederick and the St. Mary’s County Arts Council Gallery & Gift Shop in Leonardtown.

How do you spend your time when you’re not painting?

My other hobbies are creating more hobbies! I enjoy everything from playing disc golf to RC (remote control) cars as well as video games and board games. Screen printing with my wife is also a current hobby. Eventually I would like to create and print some of my own designs to sell in the future. I am also getting into wood working.

What else would you like to share with us?

I really enjoy connecting with people through art. The arts community has been so good to me, along with others who have supported my art journey. I cannot thank all of these people enough.

I moved to St. Mary’s County in 2021 from Calvert County. I really like the Leonardtown area and was drawn in by the murals, great food, and special events like First Fridays. There is music and great people all around! I also enjoy Cars and Coffee events on Sunday mornings.

Thank you, Brandon, for sharing your story with us and being a valuable part of our artistic community!
