News Release, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs

(Waldorf, Md., Mar. 23, 2019)– As the beginning of the 2019 baseball season approaches, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have announced that extended protective netting has been installed at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Always with the safety of their fans in mind, the team has decided that it is important to protect fans from foul balls gone astray. “With our new 41-foot extension on each side of the existing netting, there will be a wingspan that reaches to the beginning of each dugout. As a result, forty percent of the seating bowl will be netted, offering fans a good amount of coverage,” says Courtney Knichel, Blue Crabs General Manager.

Some fans have expressed concern that the additional netting will cause an obstructive view of the action on the field, but Knichel promises that it will become the new normal quickly. “Many teams around the country both in the minor leagues and major leagues are adding additional safety netting,” she said, adding that, “We have to be concerned with the safety of our fans above everything else.”

Knichel also promises that even though the additional netting has been added, fans will still have access to the players at the appointed times for autographs and that there will still be opportunities to catch foul balls and balls tossed out by the players from time to time. “It is our goal to provide our fans with the best experience possible while keeping safety first.”

The team opens the 2019 season on May 3rd at home against the Lancaster Barnstormers. To save your seat at the ballpark for the upcoming season and other team news, visit www.somdbluecrabs.com or call 301-638-9788.
