“This is a Code Red message from the St. Mary’s County Health Department. The St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission is reporting a sanitary sewer spill in the area of 47610 College Drive, St. Mary’s City, Md. As a result, wastewater has entered Wherritts Pond near the site of the reported leak.

Signs have been posted in the affected area and human contact with standing water in the general area should be avoided for a minimum of seven days.

The drinking water supply is not impacted by this incident in any way, and your water is safe to drink.
