UPDATE Office of the State Fire Marshal Report:

The fire was the result of a lightning strike to the roof of the home in the area of the garage.  One cat perished as a result of the fire.  

The estimated loss in damage is $250,000.00.


Update by the Charles County Volunteer Fire and Emergency Medical Services Facebook Page:

At approximately 0553hrs., a reported house fire was dispatched in the 5600 block of Brandywine Road. First arriving fire units from the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department arrived within minutes and found fire showing from the residence.

The fire was placed under control within 20 minutes.

In addition to other Charles County Volunteer Fire Departments, mutual aid was received from Prince Georges County, St. Mary’s County and Calvert County. The fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshals Office.

Hughesville, MD- The Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department is responding to a mutual aid(Charles County) structure fire on Brandywine Road near the PG County Line.

Reports say the structure is a 2-story single family home with heavy fire showing from the garage.

Watch for emergency vehicles and personnel in the area, expect delays around the impacted area.
