Indian Head, MD- An Indian Head man is in custody after he was accused of pointing a gun at his girlfriend. On August 17, 2019, at 12:14 p.m. the Charles County 9-1-1 received a call from a child stating that his mother was being assaulted and the man had a gun pointed at her.
The Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene, talked with the alleged victim and her son and an All-Points Bulletin(APB) was put up for Joel Urias Fuentes-Mendoza.
Mendoza was located a short time later at an area liquor store. A subsequent run of his identification discovered he had three warrants out for his arrest for Failure to Appear.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Mendoza and his girlfriend were having an argument. Mendoza produced a gun and told her,” We are both going to go.”
The victim managed to grab the barrel of the weapon and get it from Mendoza. She then instructed her son to call the police.
Mendoza is currently being held at the Charles County Detention Center with a bond according to CCSO PIO Diane Richardson. Mendoza was charged with Second-Degree Attempted Murder, First-Degree Assualt, and the processing of the Failure to Appear Warrants.
