Bel Alton, MD- On January 27, 2020, at 11:05 p.m., Charles County emergency 9-1-1 was alerted to a reported structure fire on Canary Drive in Bel Alton, MD. The Bel Alton Volunteer Fire department responded with approximately, forty firefighters.

Once on the scene, the fire was located and extinguished in fifteen minutes. The Office of the State Fire Marshal was called to the scene to investigate.

The preliminary report from the fire marshal states that the preliminary cause is accidental, starting from fire from the ventilation pipe of a pellet stove igniting outside vegetation along with the home. All the occupants were alerted by smoke detectors and exited the home. No injuries or deaths were reported with this incident. The loss is estimated to be $75,000.00. The three adults displaced are being assisted by family.
