UPDATE 5/18/2020 @4:30 p.m.-

ST. MARY’S COUNTY, MD (May 18, 2020) – A team of investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal, St. Mary’s County Sheriffs Office, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are conducting an investigation involving a fatal dwelling fire in the 38500 block of Lockes Forest Lane in Mechanicsville. The first 911 call was received at 12:03 p.m when an occupant of the home came home and discovered the fire. Another occupant of the home, who was inside, was able to escape without injury.

Upon the arrival of firefighters, they were advised another person was trapped inside the home. Firefighters entered the home and subsequently located an elderly female victim. The victim was later pronounced deceased at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the identity and cause of death. Numerous firefighters from Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding departments controlled the blaze, which consumed nearly half the home.

The origin and cause remain under investigation at this time, and updates will be released as additional information is developed.


UPDATE 5/18/2020 @12:58 p.m.- One person has been removed and is in the care of EMS. The fire is under control and units are hitting the hotspots.


Mechanicsville, MD(5/18/2020 @12:20 p.m.)- Units from various volunteer fire departments are responding to a structure fire on Lockes Hill Road and Forest Lane.

Units from the Mechanicsville VFD are reporting that multiple people are trapped and there are explosions being heard from around the structure. Flames from the fire can be seen through the surrounding woods

Watch for emergency vehicles and personnel. Expect closures in the area.
