LEONARDTOWN, MD—A traffic stop on Great Mills Road by St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies on Saturday led to the arrest of two Lexington Park residents, including a man charged with illegal firearms possession and drug offenses.

On February 10, 2024, during routine traffic patrol, deputies observed a 2020 Ford Escape committing a traffic violation. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver, identified as Talmadge Jones, 51, was discovered to have an open warrant for his arrest. Jones was taken into custody without incident.

The situation escalated when a passenger in the vehicle, Robert Doral Harrod, 36, also from Lexington Park, attempted to conceal his identity and hide items within the car. A search conducted by the deputies resulted in the discovery of a loaded handgun and cocaine. Further investigation determined that Harrod was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior criminal conviction for a disqualifying crime.

Harrod faces multiple charges, including Felony Firearm Possession, Illegal Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition, and CDS: Possession – Not Cannabis, among related offenses. The charges underscore the seriousness of the offenses and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat illegal firearms and drug activities within the community.

Both men were transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center following their arrest. The arrest of Harrod highlights the effectiveness of proactive patrol and traffic enforcement in identifying and apprehending individuals involved in criminal activities.
