LEONARDTOWN, MD – In a swift response to potential danger, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office intervened following a threat made against Spring Ridge Middle School, identified to occur on Friday, February 16, 2024. The law enforcement action was prompted by a disturbing social media post that circulated among students on Thursday, cautioning them against attending school the next day due to a warning that a student would bring a gun.
The authorities were quick to trace the origins of the threat to a student at Spring Ridge Middle School who had reportedly been inquiring among peers about acquiring a gun. This inquiry spurred the alarming social media message that prompted the law enforcement investigation.

Upon identifying the student alleged to have made the threat, deputies engaged with the student’s parent and proceeded to conduct a thorough search of both the student’s residence and personal belongings. The search operation, aimed at locating any firearms, concluded without the discovery of any gun.
In the wake of the incident, the St. Mary’s County Board of Education has stated that disciplinary measures will be taken against all students involved, adhering strictly to the guidelines outlined in the St. Mary’s County Public School’s Code of Conduct.
