LEONARDTOWN, MD – Calvert and St. Mary’s counties’ residents are invited to shape the future of their community’s transportation network—the Calvert–St. Mary’s Metropolitan Planning Organization (C-SMMPO) has announced a pivotal public meeting scheduled for March 5, 2024, to gather community feedback on the Long-Range Transportation Plan and Transportation Improvement Program.
The meeting is set to take place at the Lexington Park Library from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring a crucial segment dedicated to the Technical Advisory Committee from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. This session is designed to be highly interactive and open to all, underlining the organization’s commitment to inclusive community engagement.

To accommodate attendees of all ages, the C-SMMPO has provided light snacks and refreshments alongside activities tailored for children, making it a family-friendly event. Representatives from Calvert and St. Mary’s County and the Maryland Department of Transportation will be present to engage with the public and address any queries related to the transportation plans.
The outreach is part of a broader initiative following the release of draft updates to the Long-Range Transportation Plan and the Transportation Improvement Program on January 30, 2024. These documents, which are central to shaping the transportation landscape of the region for years to come, are currently open for public review and comment until March 15, 2024. Interested parties are encouraged to view the drafts and provide feedback, reflecting the organization’s dedication to incorporating public opinion into the planning process.
For those unable to attend the meeting but still wishing to contribute, comments can be emailed to Karly.Maltby@stmaryscountymd.gov. Karly Maltby, the Calvert–St. Mary’s MPO Administrator with St. Mary’s County Government’s Department of Land Use & Growth Management is also available for further inquiries via email or phone at (301) 475-4200 ext. 1507.
The importance of community input in this phase cannot be overstated, as it ensures that residents’ transportation needs and preferences are accurately represented and addressed. The C-SMMPO underscores this sentiment, inviting a broad spectrum of the community to participate in the dialogue and contribute to the region’s transportation vision.
Further information on the meeting and the broader activities of the C-SMMPO can be found on their official website at www.calvert-stmarysmpo.com. This meeting represents a significant opportunity for community members to engage directly with transportation planners and officials, shaping the future of their counties’ transportation infrastructure and policy.
