LA PLATA, MD — In a significant move to enhance community inclusiveness, the Charles County Board of Commissioners discussed a proposal on March 5, 2024, to rename “Black History Month” to “African American Heritage Month.” Commissioner Vice President Ralph Patterson presented the request, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the heritage and contributions of African Americans in a broader and more inclusive manner.
To facilitate public input on the proposal, the Charles County Government is organizing a series of Community Conversations. These group meetings aim to foster an inclusive dialogue, enabling residents to share their perspectives and contribute to the decision-making process.
