LA PLATA, MD — The Town Council of La Plata formally accepted the resignation of Town Manager Brent Manuel on Friday, June 28, 2024. Manuel, who served in his position for several years, will depart from his role to explore new professional opportunities, effective July 1, 2024.
Following his resignation, the Mayor and Town Council have initiated the process of searching for a suitable successor. In the meantime, Mayor Jeannine James has assumed the responsibilities of Chief Executive Officer, in accordance with the provisions set forth in the Town Charter.
Brent Manuel’s decision to step down has prompted the Council to evaluate potential candidates to fill the town manager position. The role is crucial for overseeing the administrative functions of the town and ensuring the implementation of policies and initiatives that benefit La Plata’s residents.
Mayor Jeannine James, now acting as the CEO, is tasked with the continued management of the town’s affairs during this transition period. The Mayor’s new responsibilities include guiding the town’s strategic planning and managing day-to-day operations until a new town manager is appointed.
The search for a new town manager is expected to attract candidates with a background in public administration and a strong understanding of local government operations. The Town Council aims to find a dedicated individual who can contribute to the growth and development of La Plata.
